Rajabai Clock tower a beautiful heritage from the times when British ruled India was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott. The foundation stone for its construction was laid in 1869. The construction of Clock Tower was funded by Premchand Roychand a broker who was founder of Bombay Stock Exchange, he gave a sum of Rs 20,0000 for construction of this Clock Tower which was a huge amount for those times. He spent that amount to get this Tower built on her mother’s name “Rajabai”. The evening bells on the Clock helped his mother know the time, as she followed Jain religion and had to consume her food before dawn.
It was the tallest building of those times, with a height of 280 feet.
