Films Division was established under the ministry of information and broadcasting, Government of India, a year after independence. A cinema-specific venture, Films division (FD) is entrusted with the responsibility of promotion, production and distribution of documentaries, short films and news magazines for internal and external publicity within the relevant public circles. It is the main film-medium organization of the Government of India and is well equipped with trained film personnel, cameras, recording and editing facilities. This infrastructure is put to use to assist in-house as well as free-lance film makers and producers.
Production of documentaries / news – magazines / public awareness shorts/ animation films from its headquarters in Mumbai, outlying units at New Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru. Production of films for different Departments / Ministries / Public Sectors of the Govt. of India. Release of PSA short films in cinema houses throughout the country through the theatrical circuit of Films Division and propagation of the films through other channels.
