Navi Mumbai Will Have An International Airport by 2019

Navi Mumbai International Airport which will be built in the Kopar-Panvel area of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region in India is aimed at easing air traffic congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The project has been delayed for long for reasons of obtaining forest clearance, work contracts and finalising the bid.

The latest news is that GVK-led company Mumbai International Airport Ltd has won the bid of Rs. 16k crore to develop Navi Mumbai airport .

The new airport, first proposed in 1997 and approved by the government in 2007 is expected to be operational in 2019.
